Residents across Christopher Homes’ properties have been on the receiving end of many generous acts of kindness from individuals, community organizations, church parishes and local businesses. Our residents have received hot meals, non-perishable food items, basic household and personal needs, and uplifting cards and letters from caring people throughout the community.
Christopher Homes’ residents have a tendency to share acts of kindness as well, including a group of residents that enjoying putting their sewing skills to use for good. Several Metairie Manor residents regularly sew gifts for newborns and pediatric patients throughout the year. Now, these residents are busy sewing masks for those on the front line during this pandemic.
This week, a few residents donated their homemade masks to the employees of local grocery store, Ideal Market. This particular gesture was a ‘thank you” for Ideal Market’s recent generous donation of hot meals for all Metairie Manor residents through their new Ideal Mobile Market initiative to serve the elderly population. The residents were honored to be able to put their skills to work in an effort to show their gratitude and give back to the community!
“I wanted to do something. Sewing is my passion so it made sense for me to start making masks – initially for my family and friends,” explains Frances Munaco, resident of Metairie Manor. “I started to find out about other Metairie Manor residents who were working on masks and what started small has grown into a group effort – from a social distancing standpoint. We call ourselves the Metairie Manor Masked Warriors. It’s giving us something to do – to keep us going. I see brighter faces around here due to this as we know we are doing something to cheer up other people. I’ve always had the heart to give back and I just want to do something to get people through this. I can’t share hugs with the ones that I love, so I’m sharing my love through this effort.”
