Wishing all a very happy and blessed Mother's Day.
A mother's love never fades: in its essence, it is more God-like than any other personal relationship most of us experience. We each owe the gift of life to that woman who cooperated with God to bring us into the world. Motherhood is that special vocation which, when lived as intended, is the most nurturing and giving of all callings.
This year Mother's Day has special meaning for me. As we anticipate the coming birth of our youngest daughter's second child; we are in prayer for my mother as this may be the last Mother's Day that she will celebrate in this life.
On a recent visit to see my parents, my mother, in her sweet, concerned voice, between labored breaths, said she was sorry that she did not give us more in life than she did. Yet this is a woman who gave to my five siblings and me all that we needed. Each of us are successful in what matters in life because she and our father gave us unconditional love. Now we give back to them all that we can.
Such is the meaning of this day we set aside to honor all mothers including those spiritual mothers who have provided us maternal care, love, and direction; be they grandmothers, step-mothers, aunts, wives, teachers, godmothers, friends, or religious sisters. Whether they are with us now or remain in the memory of our hearts and minds, we are who we are today largely due to their love, care, and sacrifice.
In this month of May, we are reminded of the great maternal love of the Blessed Mother for her Son and for each of us. Her example of love can be a great model to follow in our relationship with each other.
Know that each of you remain in my daily prayers and on this Sunday, I will pray especially for all of our Christopher Homes Mothers.
