A commencement ceremony was held on September 11th at Villa St. Maurice for 15 residents who completed a computer assistance program through the New Orleans Public Library. Mary Abler with the Martin Luther King Library was on hand to give out the certificates to the graduates. Ms. Abler was the instructor of the computer classes which were held at Villa St. Maurice.
Ms. Phyllis Woods, a graduate of the program, was invited to speak. She told those in the room that "we must keep up with technology or the world will leave us behind". There were many residents who came to cheer on their friends and neighbors.
The computer program was made possible through the New Orleans Public Library as well as the Caffin Avenue Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Members of the church ministry were also in attendance. The guests were served cake and punch once all of the certificates were handed out.
